Dr. Elahe Nezami Elected Vice President of Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health

Elahe Nezami, Ph.D., professor of professional practice in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, assumed her role in October 2023, following a decisive vote by 48 Deans from the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Nezami will play a pivotal figure role in shaping the organization's mission and goals.

Dr. Nezami's leadership emphasizes the global influence of the department's faculty, signifying a commitment to shaping the strategic direction of APACPH. Her objectives include fostering collaboration among member institutions, public health professionals, and industry partners to create a cohesive and engaged consortium.

Contributing to the development and implementation of strategic plans, Dr. Nezami aims to guide APACPH per its objectives. She says she is committed to fostering collaboration and partnerships with member institutions, public health professionals, and industry partners, creating a cohesive and engaged consortium.

Dr. Nezami will work closely with both APACPH Presidents, Dr. So Yoon Kim of Yonsei University in the Republic of Korea and Dr. Hung Yi Chiou of Taipei Medical University in Taiwan, to help the consortium achieve its overarching goals. This includes leading task forces and specialized committees, advocating for public health concerns in the Asia-Pacific area, and representing APACPH at conferences and events.

Dr. Nezami's role extends to advocacy for public health issues and policies relevant to the Asia-Pacific region. “I will actively work to raise awareness and influence positive change, representing APACPH at conferences, meetings, and other events,” she stated.

Beyond policy adherence and effective decision-making, Dr. Nezami's engagement focuses on understanding the needs and concerns of members, ensuring the consortium effectively serves its institutional interests. Additionally, as one of the directors of the American regional office, she facilitates communication between central APACPH leadership and members in different regions.

Dr. Nezami is dedicated to enhancing education and promoting collaboration and networking among member institutions and public health professionals. With a focus on community-building and shared goals, she actively gathers feedback to enhance APACPH's activities.

As a member of the Early Career Network, Dr. Nezami emphasizes APACPH's dedication to professional development, networking, mentorship, information sharing, and advocacy for early career professionals. Highlighting the importance of global collaboration in advancing public health, she underscores the value of transparent cooperation and diverse perspectives in addressing complex challenges for the benefit of all.

Reflecting on the importance of global collaboration in advancing public health, Dr. Nezami emphasizes the value of transparent cooperation, bringing diverse perspectives and experiences to the forefront. “By fostering international collaboration, APACPH contributes not only to the health of populations worldwide but also to humanity's overall well-being. The collective knowledge and shared efforts across borders are deemed indispensable in addressing complex public health challenges for the benefit of all,” she said.
