Miller School and CLEO Institute Lead the Empowering Capable Climate Communicators Symposium

The 10th annual, complimentary Empowering Capable Climate Communicators Symposium — held in partnership with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the CLEO Institute — will take place virtually from Thursday, November 19, to Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

The CLEO Institute — Climate Leadership Engagement Opportunities — is the No. 1 nonprofit organization for climate science education with a world-class Expert Advisory Council in the state of Florida.

The Empowering Capable Climate Communicators Symposium will convene world-renowned keynote and expert panelists who will cover the health of the climate, how climate health is impacting human health, and what can be done to protect populations and mitigate the climate crisis.

Experts from the Miller School of Medicine who will serve as panelists in the symposium will include Naresh Kumar, Ph.D., associate professor of public health sciences; Mehdi Mirsaeidi, M.D., M.P.H., associate professor of medicine and public health sciences, who is also vice chair of the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System; Michael Campos, M.D., associate professor of clinical medicine; Olveen Carrasquillo, M.D., M.P.H., professor of medicine and public health sciences and chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine; and Dushyantha Jayaweera, M.D., professor of medicine.

This virtual symposium has also invited Jacee Gossett from The Class to help with Zoom fatigue by providing interactive opportunities to ensure active learning. She will also provide a call to action for a climate emergency declaration in order for municipalities to act on climate change.
