Dr. Patricia Moreno Joins the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Miller School’s Department of Public Health Sciences

Patricia Moreno, Ph.D. has joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Public Health Sciences as an assistant professor in the Division of Prevention Science and Community Health. Dr. Moreno has also joined the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center as the lead of Evidence-Based Survivorship Supportive Care.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Dr. Moreno to the faculty of the Division of Prevention Science and Community Health where her program of research on interventions to optimize health outcomes across the cancer continuum will contribute to both the depth and breadth of our research portfolio,” said Adam Carrico, Ph.D., professor and director of the Division of Prevention Science and Community Health, also at the Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Public Health Sciences.

“I am thrilled to join the University of Miami and the outstanding faculty in the Department of Public Health Sciences and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. It is an honor to work alongside such a talented team of researchers and clinicians to reduce the burden of cancer in our diverse South Florida communities,” said Dr. Moreno.

Dr. Moreno’s research is focused on the challenges faced by patients coping with cancer and improving outcomes across the cancer continuum through patient-centered healthcare and tailored empirically supported interventions. Her interests include resilience, metastatic disease, and supportive care needs, as well as psychoneuroimmunology and the pathways through which psychosocial factors influence stress biology. A primary area of focus in Dr. Moreno's research is identifying factors that can be targeted to improve quality of life and health outcomes among Hispanics/Latinos and other underrepresented, underserved individuals.

Dr. Moreno earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Arts in Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Additionally, she completed an American Psychological Association-accredited internship in Cancer Behavioral Symptom Management and Support at the Duke University School of Medicine as well as a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-funded T32 post-doctoral fellowship in Cancer Control and Survivorship at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

In addition to her research activities, Dr. Moreno is a bilingual licensed clinical psychologist with more than 10 years of clinical experience. She also has more than seven years of experience providing evidence-based care to cancer survivors and their family members across three NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers.
